Annapurna Cicuit and Base Camp Trek

Annapurna Circuit Trek is a classic trek around the world’s tenth highest mountain. Cross the classic Thorung La Pass (5416m/ 17769 ft) from Manang to Muktinath, take in fabulous mountain views from the summit of Punhill at 3210m / 17769ft. This trek takes you from 830m /2723Ft to 5416m / 17769 ft and back. The dramatic trek around the mighty Annapurna range, a journey that is regarded as one of the top ten walks in the world. The 222 kilometres Annapurna Circuit Trek, of the Annapurna massif offers a unique inside into the physical and cultural diversity of Nepal.This trek provides the panoramic mighty scene of Kali Gandaki Valley – the deepest river valley on the face of the earth 7000m/23000ft deep between Dhaulagiri and Annapurna. At the end we trek through a wonderful rhododrendon forest on the Ghorepani ridge and the picturesque Gurung villages before finishing back in Pokhara valley. This trek normally explores Tilicho lake area in the upper Manang valley. On the day hike from a little visited village in the upper Marsyandi valley, we will have an opportunity to explore this austere but beautiful lake. The cobalt water of the trek feed the heaswaters of Marsyandi River. This massif 21 days trek reaches its zenith at 5416m/ 17769 ft and travelers all the way through agricultural villages to high mountain passes that resemble mountain peaks and to the beginning of the Tibetan Plateau. This adventurous trek begins from Besisahar, follows 7 days walk through terraced rice fields, forests and friendly villages beginning to the lower realms of the Annapurna Conservation Area. Time here will be well spent observing Buddhist Monks praying at one of the many monasteries. Act will continue over Thorang La Pass (5416m/17667 ft). Starting descent from Dhaulagiri and Mustang peak, you visit Hindu Pilgrimage site of Muktinath (3800m/12467 ft) and wonder in amazement at the presence of 108 waterfalls and mysterious natural gas fires. You will have real eye view of deepest gorge of the world on the Kaligandaki River after descending through Marpha, all the way to Tatopani and its natural hot springs.

Itinearary in Details

 

Day 1: Arrival at kathmandu.
Upon your arrival at Kathmandu, you will be welcomed heartily by company representative at the airport and transferred to hotel with a short briefing session reflecting ancient local tradition, shrines and temples found over here. Overnight in Kathmandu(1000m).

Day 2 : Kathmandu sightseen.
Visit World Heritage site in Kathmandu including Kathmandu Durbar Square , Patan Durbar Square , Pasupatinath Temple, Bouddhanath, Swoyambhunath ( also called Monkey Temple)as a half day trip . Overnight stay in Kathmandu (1000m/280ft).

Day 3 :Drive Kathmandu to Besisahar (760m).
Drive Kathmandu to Besisahar (760m) about 6 hours drive through real natural diversities mixed up with scenic beauty in both sides of your drive. Your adventure begins. Stay overnight in Besisahar (830m /2323ft).

Day 4 : Besisahar to Bahundanda.
This first day’s walk involves crossing a few suspension bridges, water falls, several up and down hill section, across rice paddies and sub tropical forests. The villages and people are an interesting mix. Overnight in Bahundanda (1310m/4298ft).

Day 5: Bahundanda to Chamje (1430m) .
The gorge becomes narrower as we cross a cantilever bridge followed by a suspension bridge. We pass few small settlements along the route and Chamje, the destination for the day, is one of them. You trevel up stream and observe many changes in the people, architecture and vegetation. Houses are now built with rocks, the vegetation is less tropical and the culture more Tibetan like.

Day 6: Chamje to Bagarchhap (2160m).
Leaving Chamje, the gorge becomes more impressive. You cross into the district of Manang and see more Bhotia people. These are primarily agro – pastoralist and the real Trans Himalayan traders of the region. The trail climbs gradually to the town of Bagarchhap means (butcher’s Place). You see the houses having flat roof, indicating that there is less rainfall here than in the south. The main memorable view of this place is Mt. Annapurna 2 and Lamjung Himal.

Day 7: Bagarchhap – Chame (2610m).
Today’s adventure takes up you upto Chame (2610m) passing descends up through slender and picturesque valley. The vegetation is temperate with broad leaved forest. Chame, district headquarters of Manang offers you different interesting religious buildings and hot spring to witness. On the way to Chame, a small wooden bridge welcomes you to follow steep ascent path up to Timang.

Day 8: Chame – Pisang (3200m).
You continue in an unrelenting narrow valley of pine, hemlock and cypress forest. The trail through a serene forest leads to lower Pisang; a side trip to higher Pisang (100m) is a most for an amazing view of Annapurna II. This arid region is in thwe rain shadow of the Himalaya. The men here are traders and may sell or trade almost everything and part time farmers and women are full time farmers.

Day 9: Pisang – Manang (3540m).
The trail for today follows with two routes, a lower route and higher route, the later takes longer and offers outstanding views of Annapurna himal and few trekkers. Both routes coverage in the large and interesting village of Braga, the seat of oldest monastery in the area. The Gompa is about 900 years old and belongs to kargyupa sect of Tibetan Buddhism, and contains some unique art works. The end of the day leads you in Manang, the place having cultural display of Sherpa and Gurung people. The cold dry climate creates a much harsher environment and can see an incredible view of the towering Himalayan peaks.

Day 10: Manang (3540m).
Today is acclimatization day, which is best spent being active and climbing to higher elevation for views but returning to lower altitudes to sleep. Manang itself is in a spectacular loacation with much attraction. There are lakes, caves, moraine – hills, monsteries or local activities in town. Enjoy the fascinating village and immerse yourself in its wonderful culture. Explore with spectacular side trip to Bhojo Gompa or Ganga Purna Lake and Glacier.

Day 11: Manang – Yak Kharka (4018m).
Today’s trek moves upward high by crossing small tributaries and contour along pleasant meadows with occasional gorges. It is the place of opportunity to see heards of blue sheep. Through the estuary of Marsyandi Rive, you can delight with the sunset view in the mountain all around.

Day 12: Yak Kharka – Thorung Phedi (4220m)
Your adventurous trek gradually gains altitude and spend the night at Phedi (fort of hill). Leaving Marsyandi River, we are at the hilltop. If you are lucky enough, you may spot a snow leopard here by at dusk. It’s a base camp for crossing the Thorong La Pass. A small, although busy settlement catering to the needs of trekkers and climbers that use this point as a base camp.

Day 13: Thorung Phedi – Thorung La (5416 m) – Muktinath (3800m)
The trail now leaves the river valley and climbs steadily over lateral moraine. The pass marked by the large cairn, is the high point of our trek. It is an invigorating geographical feature dividing two mighty Himalayan valleys .Far below to the west is Kali Gandaki River. You descend in the same direction for the village of Muktinath, located in a poplar groove. It is scared shrine pilgrimage site for Hindus and Buddhist.

Day 14: Muktinath – Jomsom (2710m)
From Muktinath to Jomsom, we see people from Mustang, a restricted area to the north, come to sell handicrafts to pilgrims. Among their merchandise is the highly revered mollusk fossil called Saligram. You will pass some ancient caves and see the impressive White Mountain that is the Mt Dhaulagiri. You also transit to the significant town of Kagbeni, which is at a junction of two rivers and the border of the restricted area.

Day 15: Jomsom – Marpha (2667m)
Leaving Jomsom with its apectacular unique place, you begin the descent down the dramatic Kali Ganaki gorge, initially through arid country in the same geographical and climatic zone as Tibet. After passing through Jharkot and Khingar villages with typical Tibetan architecture, you follow the valley floor most of the way to Jomsom which is sprawled alomg both banks os Kali Gandaki. Continue your walk down to Marpha, a delightful Thakali village, complete with drainage systm beneath the flagstone streets. It’s a narrow alley and passage ways provide welcome shelter fron the strong winds of the Kali Gandaki gorge.

Day 16: Marpha – Ghasa (2013m)
Today your trip takes about 6 hours. Your trail descends steeply through forests to Ghasa, the last Thakali village. The beginning part of the trail is stretched at almost flat level up to Kalopani and then your trail begins descending steeply down to Ghasa. The first part of trek passes through the windy area covered with pine forests, rhododrendron forests. The surrounding area of Ghasa is famous destination for bird watching and wild Marijuana. You view panoramic Mt. Nilgiri North ( 7061m ) , Nilgiri center ( 6940m ) , and Nilgiri south ( 6839m ), Annapurna ( 8091m ), Dhaulagiri 1 ( 8167m ) and Tukuche Peak ( 6920m ).

Day 17: Ghasa – Tatopani (1189m)
This valorous trek takes about 5 hours descend steeply up to Rukse Chhahara (Rukse waterfall). The trail slightly ascends to Tatopani through different human settlement. You can enjoy hot spring at Tatopani as the word Tatopani is coined after natural hot spring situated at the bank of Kali Gandaki River. It is popularly believed that taking bath in hot spring helps you to get rid of skin diseases.

Day 18: Tatopani – Ghorepani (2853m)
It takes about 7 hours passes through flat wayland ascending steeply for at least one hour. The path goes up through different villages inhabited by the people of different caste and agriculture land. The trail ascends gently all the way to Ghorepani passing through small village like Phalate, Chitre and so on. You are accompanied by more panoramic views of different mountains. Ghorepani is a small pass and the village of Deurali. If you want to face a hit trouble with enumerable ascending upto Punhill ( 3180m ) , you will be attracted with an outstanding panorama of Dhaulagiri 1,2,3,4, Tukuche Peak , Dhampus peak , Nilgiri Ranges , Annapurna 1 , Baraha Shikhar / Twelve peaks , renowned as a French Flag , Annapurna south , Himchuli Fishtail and Mardi Himal in a fresh shining morning .

Day 19: Ghorepani – Punhill – Tadapani (2675m)
After early morning trip to Punhill to enjoy the sunrise view over number of mountain peaks, you pass through deep forests of rhododrendron, bamboos and oaks. En route, you frequently see water falls, rocks, wild animals, local birds and green scenarios. Tadapani is a small village surrounded by beautiful forests which grants you a magnificient view of Annapurna south , Himchuli , fishtail and Annapurna II.

Day 20: Punhill – Nayapul
Today’s trek makes you dramatic passing down through Ulleri and Hille having natural scenaries tasting full in mind. On the trail, you will go down to Birethanti and finally reach to Naayapul and drive to Pokhara.

Day 21: Pokhara – Kathmandu
Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu by bus that takes about 7 hours passing Damauli, Dumre, Muglin, and Kuringtar. En route you could enjoy the mountain views, green sceneries, rice terraced fields, vegetation fields and people engaged in their daily life activities. From Naubise you climb up to Thankot, the gate way to capital city. Warmly welcomes you to the capital city.
